Holton Lee Forest

About AWE

AWE is a collaboration between Bournemouth University scientists and local organisations and businesses.

We develop Augmented Wildlife Experiences in the form of wildlife trails

along which we place wildlife information hubs.

A QR code, or direct site link, is available at each hub.

The link unlocks a wealth of online multimedia content: wildlife videos and sounds, fun facts, creatures that can't be seen with the naked eye, and educational information.

The possibilities are endless.

Our Vision

AWE aims to provide everybody to experience the, often hidden, world of nature all around us. By integrating cutting-edge technology with outdoor experiences, we hope to create a deeper connection between people and the environment.

This immersive approach transforms a simple walk in the woods into an engaging and informative journey.

Our Collaborations

AWE is built on strong collaborations among educational institutions, conservation organizations, and technology partners. Notably, our partnership with Livability Millie College at Holton Lee has been instrumental in piloting our innovative approach, providing a rich environment for testing and refining our concept. Whilst Dorset Electrical Solutions supports our electrical developments.

We welcome collaborations and content contributions as we embark on this new adventure.

We have only just started this adventure, Holton Lee is our first AWE trail. More trails in various locations in the local area will be developed as long as we can find the funds and contributors to keep AWE alive.

Please get in touch if you would like to create a new trail at your site or would like access to a trail for your community or school group.

The Future of AWE

Online content and trails are made with input from visitors and students. Content is curated by scientists*.

Our Pilot project at Holton Lee was funded by Bournemouth University and a Higher Education Innovation Fund grant (UKRI).
