Our first stop features a mixed woodland of deciduous and evergreen trees. The path winds around the hill in front of us which has been cleared of some trees to aid conservation of rare species. Our trail cam overlooks this area, which features many animal paths.

Deer in the clearing

Clearings in the woods allows other plants such as grasses and heathers to grow, making this a popular meeting spot for herbivores. The deer we have recorded here are all sika deer, a non-native species from Japan. They develop white spots during the summer, gaining darker coats in the winter.
