This rabbit is grazing on grasses and herbs growing in the clearing. Coming out at night to do this offers some protection, though owls and foxes are known to be in this area.

Deer can raise themselves on their hind legs to better reach fresh vegetation. Over time, this creates a 'browse line' below which all the vegetation is eaten. You might see this browse line as you look across the woods.

Foxes are omnivores, eating anything from rodents to berries. This one passes quickly through the clearing, possibly on its way back to the den.

Though often associated with fields of grass, woodlands provide important shelter and food for cows, as it did for their ancestor the aurochs. As they move through these habitats, they are also transporting nutrients and seeds through their droppings.
